10/1/24 It's Hispanic Heritage Month! Students in 2nd and 3rd grades are learning all about Latin American Music. Kindergarten and 1st grades are keeping steady beats while exploring song and chants, and learning how to play lots of different instruments. Students in 4th grade have been learning about ancient instruments. And students in 5th grade are learning Native American music in connection with their unit for PYP and Social Studies. 10/10/23 Do you ever listen to a piece of music and think that you know where you heard it before? That's a question that students in 4th and 5th grade have been asking as we learn more about composer of the month, Antonin Dvorak. Dvorak's music has been used in many movies and TV shows. But it also inspired many other composers to write music that sounds very similar. Check out the links below and see what you think.
9/20/22 Students in 4th and 5th grade learned more of the Korean song "Arirang" this week and how to play an accompaniment on a virtual xylophone. Click hereto try it yourself. Students in 3rd grade learned the game song "Pizza, Pizza Daddy-O." Students in 2nd grade composed some rhythms. First grade students continued to learn about community jobs with a song about food service workers. And students in Kindergarten learned more of our ABC's of Percussion letters and instruments. 9/13/22 This week, students in 4th and 5th grades are comparing folk and pop music, traveling to South Korea and learning "Arirang"and K-pop. Students in 3rd grade are practicing rhythms with the rhyme "Alligator Pie" and music football. Second grade students are learning rhythms with "Go Around the Corn, Sally." First graders are singing some great songs about the different jobs of community helpers. And Kindergarten students are beginning our journey through the book the "ABC's of Percussion" and learning lots of alphabet letters and instruments along the way. 9/6/22 Students in Kindergarten and 1st Grade are practicing our OWLS nest expectations and exploring DYNAMICS while using 4 different voices. We are also learning where around our school we can use these voices. Second graders are using "Hop Old Squirrel" to study rhythm. Third graders are adding different instruments to their "Hello To All the Children of the World" song. And 4th and 5th grades are taking a music survey to show what they already know and contribute ideas for what music they like best and would like to know more about. 3/31/20 For today's activity, create a Song Journal. Follow each step listed below to tell me all about your favorite song or piece of music.
Write the name of a favorite song. Pick something that you love to sing or listen to.
Can you sing or play the song on an instrument?
How did you first hear the song?(someone else singing or playing, on the radio, at school, at a party, etc.)
Draw a simple picture or attach an image to go with the song.
Write a few words or a few sentences about the song. Does the song make you feel happy, sad, silly, calm? Why is the song important or memorable to you?
