6/8/2017 Update:
Hard to believe that it is already the end of the school year. I hope your student enjoyed music class. I would love to know more about their favorite things they learned from this past year.
If they are interested in continuing their musical learning throughout the summer, there is a great resource from Carnegie Hall, appropriate for kids ending 2nd-5th grades. It is a game based on Benjamin Britten’s "Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra". You can choose to create a log in and access the game from anywhere, and save it throughout the process. Or click “Local Game” and save a copy of it on just one device. Either way, have a wonderful summer and I can’t wait to see everyone next fall!

5/23/2017 Update:
This week we wrap up our study of music from around the world. We are learning about Russian music, listening to the balalaika and domra, singing a traditional Russian folk song, and completing our unit with a listening quiz to see if our students can distinguish between the sounds of the instruments we have listened to and learned about during the past few weeks.
Kindergarten and 1st grade are exploring the different instruments they have been using from throughout the year-xylophone, Boomwhacker, tambourine, shekere, cabasa, woodblock, and djembe.

5/9/17 Update:
We are continuing our musical journey through different cultures and countries with music from Spain. Ask your student if they liked the castanets or maracas better? What did they like or dislike about flamenco dancing?
Kindergarten and 1st graders are learning how to play quarter note and eighth note patterns with the song Johnny Mister Brown.
Next Week:
The music of Brazil!
