9/25/18 Students in all classes are expanding our music skills by practicing playing rhythmic accompaniments to the songs we have been learning, playing at least 2 different percussion instruments in each class. And Kindergarten and 1st graders are reading a book about the "ABC's of Percussion". There are so many fun instruments for us to learn about and use in music class. Does your student have a favorite? 9/18/18 Do you know who is the most liked and retweeted celebrity in the world right now? Students in 4th and 5th grade do! It's BTS, a K-pop boy band who is breaking international music records. For more information on this phenomenon, check out this NPR article here. And they are comparing the traditional Korean song "Arirang" to the Korean pop music. Students in 3rd grade are practicing rhythm patterns with a music football game. Second graders are using rhythm building blocks to make their own music. And students in Kindergarten and 1st grade are practicing a steady beat with a "Windshield Wipers" poem.
9/11/18 We are rolling along with music. Fourth and Fifth graders are working on big questions, like "What does pop music sound like in other countries?" Third graders are learning about different rhythms and rests in a game song, "Pizza, Pizza, Daddy-O". Second grade are learning rhythm too with the game song"Hop Old Squirrel". And First grade and Kindergarten are studying their different voice levels--singing voice, speaking voice, whisper voice and shouting voice--with John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt.
8/28/19 Welcome to another year of general music at YSCP! I am so excited to be back, and enjoying seeing all the students again. Students in fourth and fifth grades are learning a welcome song from Africa. Students in 3rd grade are learning "Hello to all the children of the world", a song with many different languages and ways that we can greet one another even in other countries. Second graders, first graders and Kindergarten student are learning a "Hello" song, reviewing our music class essential agreements, and playing boomwhackers and games to get to know one another. Check out the links below for examples of what we are learning!
